Important Application of Silicon Nitride Ceramics
The initial applications of silicon nitride ceramics are mainly used in machinery, metallurgy, chemicals, aerospace, semiconductor and other industries, as components of certain equipment or products, and have achieved good expected results. In recent years, with the development of the manufacturing process and test analysis techniques, the reliability of silicon nitride ceramics continues to improve, so the applications are constantly expanding. It is particularly commendable that the silicon nitride ceramic engine is being developed and has made great progress, which has become a remarkable event in science and technology. The main contents of applications are:
(1). In the metallurgical industry, they can make parts of thermal equipment such as crucibles, muffle furnace, burners, heater fixtures, molds, aluminum conduits, thermocouple protection tubes, aluminum reduction cell linings.
(2). In the machinery industry, they can make high-speed turning tools, bearings, heat treated support members of metal components, rotor engine blades, gas turbine guide vanes and turbine blades.
(3). In the chemical industry, they can make ball valves, pumps, sealing rings, filters, heat exchanger elements, immobilized catalyst carriers, combustion boat, evaporating dish and so on.
(4). In the semiconductor, aerospace, nuclear and other industries, they can be used for the manufacture of switching circuit substrate, film capacitors, electrical insulators that can withstand high temperatures or extreme changes in temperature, radomes, missile exhaust nozzles, support members and spacers in atomic reactors, carriers for nuclear fission materials, and so on.
(5). In the medical engineering, they can make artificial joints.
(6). The all-ceramic silicon nitride engine that is being developed will replace the metal engine of the same type.
